You know who’s going through a lot right now..? Literally everyone, just be kind.

A seasoned door-to-door salesman walks up to a house after dozens of previous rejections; sweating from working all day in the heat. He rings the doorbell and the lady that opened the door seemed to be irritated from the start.

As he begins his presentation, she goes off on him, yelling and screaming. He had been warned about her from one of his colleagues who was waiting on the sidewalk. The salesman simply smiles at her as he backs away from the door and says sorry for the inconvenience, hope you have a blessed day.

The lady, now with a tear in her eye and somewhat baffled by the salesman’s authenticity in his kind words, asked him to repeat what he said. Now he’s confused, which part, he asked.

She said, I just yelled and screamed at you and you responded genuinely with have a blessed day. The conversation shifts and is now amicable. She invites him inside to continue his presentation. As he makes his way to the living room he notices a pistol on the kitchen counter and says you’re not going to shoot me are you..? She looks him in the eye and mournfully says, no, I just found out yesterday that my son died in a car accident and just before you knocked on the door I was about to blow my brains out.

Think for a minute if that salesman had reacted to her hostility with anger. We never truly know what someone else is going through and we never know the potential impact that we can have on others. She did buy what he was selling and they remain friends to this day.

Stay Grateful!!
